Collider Physics and Machine Learning</a>\nby Jesse Thaler (MIT) as part o
f XXVI IFT Christmas Workshop\n\n\nAbstract\nModern machine learning has h
ad an outsized impact on many scientific fields\, and particle physics is
no exception. What is special about particle physics\, though\, is the va
st amount of theoretical and experimental knowledge that we already have a
bout many problems in the field. In this talk\, I draw on examples from c
ollider phenomenology and quantum chromodynamics to highlight the fascinat
ing interplay between theoretical principles and machine learning strategi
 es.\n
