DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/SIMBa/15/">O
 verdetermined problems involving the fractional Laplacian</a>\nby Jack Tho
 mpson (The University of Western Australia) as part of Barcelona Mathemati
 cs Informal Seminar (SIMBa)\n\nLecture held in UB FMI\, Room B2.\n\nAbstra
 ct\nOverdetermined problems are a class of partial differential boundary v
 alue problem where "too many" boundary conditions are imposed on the solut
 ion. Such problems appear in physics\, biology\, and other applied science
 s due to their strong connection with shape optimisation. The mathematical
  objective is to understand and classify the regions that admit solutions
 that satisfy all the required properties.\n\nA classical result in this ar
 ea is Serrin's problem\, which says that a bounded domain in $\\mathbb R^n
 $ that admits a function with constant Laplacian\, zero Dirichlet data\, a
 nd constant Neumann data must be a ball. We will consider two generalisati
 ons of this problem\, both driven by the fractional Laplacian\, and give a
 n overview of the current literature and open problems.\n
