errestrial Aurora: Laboratory for plasma processes in Space/Astrophysics</
a>\nby Ilan Roth (University of California Space Sciences\, Berkley) as pa
rt of QHS Lecture Series on Superconducting Phenomena and Electronics\n\n\
 nAbstract\nTerrestrial Aurora\, being a small unit of the solar system\, s
erves as unique laboratory of magnetized plasma. It forms a striking examp
le of electrodynamic connection between Earth and Sun\, being anchored in
the ionosphere and affected by the magnetosphere. I will present the basic
structure of the Earth environment\, show simple examples of various obse
rved auroras and sketch the process in which particular interaction betwee
n electromagnetic waves and plasma particles at Earth may solve some old p
uzzles of acceleration of He isotopes\, with implication on solar physics\
, anomalous abundances in meteorites at the beginning of the solar system
and at the planetary nebulae observed at the termination of stellar life.\
