 m field theory on the rigid background of Anti-de Sitter space and discuss
 ing the examples of confining gauge theories and 2d sigma models\, I will 
 explain how to assign to any massive QFT a UV and IR finite AdS partition 
 function. I will then discuss the proposal that this quantity is monotonic
  under boundary RG flows that connect different AdS-invariant boundary con
 ditions for the same bulk QFT.\n
