DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/QASTM/26/">A
robust standard rod for cosmology</a>\nby Ravi K. Sheth (Department of Ph
ysics and Astronomy\, University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Scien
 ces\, Philadelphia\, USA\, and Research Staff Associate at ICTP\, Trieste\
, Italy) as part of Quantum Aspects of Space-Time and Matter\n\n\nAbstract
\nBaryon Acoustic Oscillations provide a standard rod for constraining cos
mological distances and the expansion history of our universe over a subst
antial fraction of its history. I will review the physics which motivates
this standard rod and summarize constraints from its use. Finally\, I wi
ll discuss ways of making the rod more robust so that it can more easily b
e used to constrain non-standard cosmological models. This is particularl
y important given recent tension between local and distant estimates of th
 e Hubble constant.\n
