DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/NSCM/55/">On
partially dissipative systems</a>\nby Giusy Mazzone (Queen's University)
as part of Nečas Seminar on Continuum Mechanics\n\n\nAbstract\nIn this ta
lk\, we will investigate the dynamics of three mechanical systems: a rigid
  body with a damper\, a system of rigid bodies with a fluid-filled gap\, a
nd a harmonic oscillator in a fluid-filled pipe. The equations governing t
he motion of these systems are “partially dissipative”\, in that there
exists an energy functional that decreases along the trajectories\, while
other physical variables are conserved or even excited during the motion.
The objective of our investigations is to describe the “stabilization p
roperties” of the systems. By “stabilization” we mean either converg
ence of each trajectory to a stationary solution or the existence of perio
dic solutions to the governing equations corresponding to forces with arbi
 trary frequencies.\n
