DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/NSCM/5/">Som
e mathematical aspects of models of strain-gradient plasticity</a>\nby Day
a Reddy (University of Cape Town) as part of Nečas Seminar on Continuum
Mechanics\n\n\nAbstract\nStrain-gradient plasticity has become well establ
ished as an approach to modelling seize-dependent phenomena at the meso- a
nd microscales. This presentation is concerned with a class of models of s
train-gradient plasticity\, which mathematically are formulated as variati
onal inequalities. Conditions for well-posedness are reviewed\, following
which attention is given to some aspects of what is referred to as the dis
sipative model. Though in a sense a natural extension of conventional plas
ticity\, this model possesses some distinctive features\, most particularl
y that the plastic flow relations take a global form. The consequences of
this feature are discussed\, for example\, in relation to determining the
stage at which incipient plastic behaviour takes place. The presentation a
lso treats issues relevant to approximations\, such as the convergence of
predictor-corrector algorithms\, and approximations under conditions of mi
 nimal regularity.\n
