 d by numerical experiments we prescribe \ndihedral symmetry and establish 
 existence of dihedrally symmetric \nelastic knots for knot classes admitti
 ng this type of symmetry. Among \nother results we prove that the dihedral
  elastic trefoil is the union of \ntwo circles that form a (planar) figure
 -eight. We also discuss some \ngeneralizations and limitations regarding o
 ther symmetries and knot classes.\n\nThis is joint work with Alexandra Gil
 sbach and Heiko von der Mosel.\n
