DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/NSCM/23/">Em
ergent behavior in swarming hydrodynamics</a>\nby Eitan Tadmor (University
of Maryland\, College Park) as part of Nečas Seminar on Continuum Mechan
ics\n\n\nAbstract\nI will discuss recent developments in our study of swar
ming \ndynamics.\nA main question of interest is the emergent behavior whi
ch we \ncharacterize by\nspectral analysis\, covering different classes of
  long-range and \nshort-range communication kernels.\nThese include examp
 les of metric-based and topologically-based kernels\, \nand kernels derive
d from a unified paradigm of anticipation.\nIn the canonical case of metri
c-based short-range kernels\, we derive \nlower-bounds on the spectral gap
\,\nindependent of thermal equilibrium (no closure for the pressure)\, whi
ch \nyield an emergent behavior of non-vacuous smooth solutions.\nThe latt
er are known to exist in one- and two space dimensions and we \nsettle th
e question of existence for arbitrary dimension.\n
