DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/NSCM/222/">A
derivation of the time dependent von Kármán equations from atomistic mo
dels</a>\nby Bernd Schmidt (University of Augsburg) as part of Nečas Semi
nar on Continuum Mechanics\n\nLecture held in Room K3\, Faculty of Mathem
 atics and Physics\, Charles University\, Sokolovská 83 Prague 8..\n\nAbs
tract\nWe derive the time-dependent von Kármán plate equations from thre
e dimensional\, purely atomistic particle models. In particular\, we prove
that a thin structure of interacting particles whose dynamics is governed
by Newton's laws of motion is effectively described by the von Kármán e
quations in the limit of vanishing interatomic distance $\\eps$ and vanish
ing plate thickness h. While the classical plate equations are obtained fo
r $\\eps \\ll h \\ll 1$\, we find new plate equations for finitely many la
yers in the ultrathin case $\\eps\\sim h$.\n
