n internal distance interactions in continuum physics/Generalized Clapeyro
 n's Theorem</a>\nby P. Podio-Guidugli / L. Truskinovsky (Roma Tor Vergata
/ ESPCI Paris) as part of Nečas Seminar on Continuum Mechanics\n\nLecture
held in Institute of Mathematics\, CAS. Žitná 25\, Praha 2\, Blue Lectu
 re Hall.\n\nAbstract\nP. Podio-Guidugli: \nOn internal distance interactio
ns in continuum physics (online)\n\nThe typical distance interactions a co
ntinuum experiences are with agencies external to it. Today I shall offer
a discussion of internal distance interactions\, based on ongoing work wit
 h Eliot Fried. Firstly\, I shall introduce the distance stress\, a symmetr
ic tensor which is a continuum-mechanics counterpart\, similar to Cauchy s
tress\, of the skew two-point force interactions usually considered in dis
crete mechanics. Secondly\, I shall introduce the distance energy-flux\, a
vector field similar to heat flux whose divergence equals the net distanc
 e-mediated energy-exchange input at a point.\n\nL. Truskinovsky: Generaliz
ed Clapeyron's Theorem\n\n\nClapeyron’s Theorem in classical linear elas
ticity provides a\nway to explicitly express\nthe energy stored in an equi
librium configuration in terms of the work\nof the forces applied\non the
boundary. We derive several new integral relations which can be\nviewed as
nonlinear\nanalogs of this classical result\, reinterpreting them as rath
er general\nstatements within Calculus of Variations. We also give dynam
ical\ninterpretation for the apparently lost work.\n\nThis seminar is ded
icated to the memory of Dr. Miroslav Šilhavý.\n\nNote the changes in the
  place\, time\, and the zoom link.\n
