DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/NSCM/170/">V
ARIATIONAL APPROACH FOR THERMODYNAMICS OUT OF EQUILIBRIUM</a>\nby Andreas
Vikelis (Faculty of Civil Engineering\, CTU) as part of Nečas Seminar on
Continuum Mechanics\n\nLecture held in Room K3\, Faculty of Mathematics a
 nd Physics\, Charles University\, Sokolovská 83 Prague 8..\n\nAbstract\n
The study of dynamic elasticity is a mainstay in Applied Mathematics and\n
Mechanics as it models materials able to accommodate large deformations\nw
hich are abundant in different physical and biological applications. While
\nthere is a vast body of literature on the static case in vectorial elast
icity\, particularly within the fields of calculus of variations and ellip
tic partial differential equations\, the dynamic case has traditionally re
ceived less attention.\nIn the first part of the talk\, we present recent
findings regarding the stability\nand uniqueness properties of the evolut
ion equations in (thermo)elasticity\,\nwhile in the second part we discuss
the variational structure of such systems\nand present schemes to constru
ct consistent solutions\, i.e. dissipating entropy and conserving energy.\
nJoint work with Myrto Galanopoulou\, Konstantinos Koumatos and Athanasios
  Tzavaras.\n
