DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/NSCM/157/">W
eighted Energy-Dissipation approach to gradient flows</a>\nby Riccardo Vos
o (University of Vienna) as part of Nečas Seminar on Continuum Mechanics\
n\nLecture held in Room K3\, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics\, Charles
  University\, Sokolovská 83 Prague 8..\n\nAbstract\nThe Weighted Energy-
Dissipation variational approach has been extensively applied to gradient
flows in the last decade. A family of parameter-dependent functionals defi
ned over entire trajectories is introduced and proved to admit global mi
nimizers. These global minimizers correspond to solutions of elliptic-in-t
ime regularizations of the limiting causal problem. By passing to the limi
t in the parameter\, such global minimizers converge\, up to subsequences\
, to a solution of the gradient flow. After discussing such variational fo
rmulation in the context of classical gradient flows\, we will focus on th
e semilinear gradient flows with state-dependent dissipation.\nThis is par
tly based on a joint work with Goro Akagi and Ulisse Stefanelli.\n
