 thod for the construction solutions of non linear sigma models given a kno
 wn solutions. Specializing in the case of the O(N) model\, we show that gi
 ven a solution having appropriate free parameters\, it is possible to appl
 y the dressing method systematically (i.e. without solving any equation) b
 y taking advantage of the Pohlmeyer reduction and by rescaling the free pa
 rameters. In this context the dressing method acts as a non linear superpo
 sition rule\, merging a genuine solution of the sigma model with a "virtua
 l" one. Talk based on 2011.04610\, 2201.02493\, 2201.10554 and work in pro
 gress.\n
