The publications make evident that there exis t different communities interested in this matter. The difference is manif est both in the type of questions asked and in the type of arguments found acceptable. From a mathematical perspective\, the standard reductions can be traced back to singular perturbation theory\, as first noted in the se minal paper by Heineken\, Tsuchiya and Aris. Thus one obtains convergence results as some "small parameter" approaches zero. But from a practitioner 's perspective\, there remains a quest for stronger\, quantitative results to be used in applications\, and there is a variety of "small parameters" to be found in the literature.
