The grid is a visual framework mapping the institutional designs they think need to exist. The rows are scales o f interaction (dyadic to global) and the columns are institutional functio ns (protocols\, preferences\, rights\, incentives\, etc.).\n\n​This work emerged through a collaborative process: In February 2026\, The Meaning A lignment Institute brought 25 researchers together in Paris\, co-located w ith the IASEAI conference\, for a day-long workshop on “AGI-ready instit ution design”. Their backgrounds ranged from mechanism design and social choice theory to legal theory\, political philosophy\, behavioral science \, and climate policy. Participants came from DeepMind\, Oxford\, UC Berke ley\, the Australian National University\, GovAI\, Mila\, the AI Democracy Foundation\, the Cooperative AI Foundation\, the University of Michigan\, and several other institutions.\n\n​The goals were to first test how mu ch alignment there was across these disciplines on what the post-AGI insti tutional landscape should look like\, and which success criteria matter fo r specific design problems.
