DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/METU_Math/3/
">A Categorical Perspective on Representation Theory</a>\nby Deniz Yılmaz
(Bilkent University) as part of METU Mathematics General Seminar\n\nLectu
re held in Gündüz İkeda Seminar Room\, Mathematics Department.\n\nAbstr
act\nGroups arise naturally in the study of symmetry\, and representation
theory studies\ngroups through linear algebra. In this talk\, we will intr
oduce a categorical framework in\nwhich finite groups appear as objects an
d the morphisms between them encode natural\noperations from representatio
n theory. After introducing the classical theory of bisets and\nbiset func
tors\, we will discuss two related refinements: diagonal $p$-permutation f
unctors\,\nobtained from suitable bimodules\, and $p$-bifree biset functor
s\, obtained by restricting to a\ndistinguished class of bisets. These con
structions connect naturally with current questions\nin modular representa
 tion theory\, especially local-global conjectures.\n
