 al approach to the Bose-Hubbard model based on Bogoliubov theory. We intro
 duce the grand canonical and canonical free energy functional for which we
  prove the existence of minimizers. By analyzing their structure we show t
 he existence of a superfluid-Mott insulator phase transition at positive t
 emperatures. In particular\, we show that this model does not exhibit a qu
 antum phase transition. Based on joint work with Norbert Mokrzański.\n
