 >A nonlocal reaction diffusion model of West Nile virus with vertical tran
smission</a>\nby Dr. Feng-Bin Wang (Division of Natural Science\, Center f
or General Education\, Chang Gung University\, Taiwan) as part of Trends i
n Mathematical Research\n\nLecture held in NTNU Gongguan S101.\n\nAbstract
\nWest Nile virus (WNv) is a mosquito-borne infection\, causing health cha
llenges to bird\nand human populations. In this talk\, I plan to propose a
general nonlocal reaction-diffusion model to explore\nthe combined effect
of alternative hosts\, vector-host movement and spatial-temporal environm
ental\nstructure on WNv transmission dynamics. The model is partially dege
nerate and\nits solution maps lack compactness due to the absence of diffu
sion terms in larval equations.\nFor this tightly coupled disease model\,
we introduce the mosquito reproduction number \nand WNv reproduction numbe
r\, respectively\, and further show that these two aforementioned\nreprodu
ction numbers completely determine the threshold behaviour of the disease\
nspread. Numerical simulations support our analytic results and suggest th
at environmental\nheterogeneity plays an important role in shaping WNv dyn
amics. Moreover\, bird migration may increase the disease risk.\n\nThis ta
lk is based on a joint work with Drs. Ruiwen Wu and Xiao-Qiang Zhao.\n
