">Effective field theories for quantum chaos</a>\nby Mark Mezei (Stony Bro
ok) as part of Kadanoff seminars\n\n\nAbstract\nQuantum chaotic dynamics i
s associated to diverse physical phenomena and signatures. In this talk\,
we describe progress in building effective theories for three of these: th
e growth of operators\, the pole skipping phenomenon\, and thermalization
through the lens of entanglement entropy. We uncover their interplay by sh
owing that the butterfly velocity plays an important role in all three man
ifestations of chaos. The discussion is informed by results from AdS/CFT a
nd from models of SYK type.\n
