  of Kadanoff seminars\n\n\nAbstract\nIn this talk I'll present a proposal 
 for a string realization of the SYK model as the world-line theory of Q FZ
 ZT branes in (p\,1) minimal string theory. Starting from the two-matrix mo
 del description of the minimal string\, I show that the FZZT brane partiti
 on function takes the form of a matrix version of the SYK model. I'll then
  describe how time emerges upon taking the continuum limit. I'll briefly c
 omment on possible implications of our result for the string dual interpre
 tation of the SYK model and for the role of ensemble averaging in low dime
 nsional holography.\n
