">Free boundary problems for the Navier-Stokes equations</a>\nby Professor
Senjo Shimizu (Kyoto University\, Japan) as part of ITB Mathematics Disti
nguished Lecture Series\n\n\nAbstract\nThe fluid is governed by the Navier
-Stokes equations\, which are derived from the laws of \nconservation of m
omentum and conservation of mass. \nThe Navier-Stokes equations are nonlin
ear partial differential equations \nwhich include the first-order spatial
derivative of the velocity vector\, called the advection term. \n\nIn thi
s talk\, we will consider free boundary problems are considered \nwhere th
e boundary of the fluid changes with time\, such as raindrops or ocean wav
es. \nIn particular\, I would like to discuss global in time well-posednes
s of the free boundary problem \nin an unbounded domain in the scale-invar
iant space. \nOur proof is based on maximal $L^1$-regularity of the corres
ponding \nStokes problem in the half-space.\n
