DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/IFTWeb/40/">
Circular polarisation of gamma rays as a probe of DM-cosmic ray electron i
nteractions</a>\nby Marina Cermeño (U. Louvain) as part of IFT-Madrid Web
inars\n\n\nAbstract\nDark Matter (DM) constitutes most of the matter in th
e presently accepted\ncosmological model for our Universe. However\, despi
te the increased\nsensitivity of direct and indirect DM searches\, and the
latest LHC run at 13\nTeV centre of mass energy\, no signal from DM parti
cles has been detected so\nfar\, leading to exclusion limits on the parame
ter space of DM models.\nConventional indirect searches look for an excess
in the electromagnetic\nemission from the sky that cannot be attributed t
o known astrophysical\nsources\, but polarisation is so far not being expl
ored.\n\nIn this talk\, I will argue that the photon polarisation is an im
portant\nfeature to understand new physics interactions. In particular\, c
ircular\npolarisation can be generated from Beyond the Standard Model (BSM
)\ninteractions if they violate parity and there is an asymmetry in the nu
mber\nof particles which participate in the interaction. I will consider a
\nsimplified model for fermionic (Majorana) DM and study the circularly\np
olarised gamma rays below 10 GeV from DM cosmic ray electron interactions.
\nI will study the differential flux of positive and negative polarised\np
hotons from the Galactic Centre and show that the degree of circular\npola
rization can reach up to 90%. Finally\, I will discuss the detection\npros
pects of this signal in future experiments.\n
