DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/IAMP_seminar
s/185/">Quantum field theories of relativistic Luttinger fermions</a>\nby
Holger Gies (Friedrich Schiller University Jena) as part of One world IAMP
mathematical physics seminar\n\n\nAbstract\nWe propose relativistic Lutti
nger fermions as a new ingredient for\nthe construction of fundamental qua
ntum field theories. The resulting fermion\nfields exhibit a canonical sca
ling different from Dirac fermions and thus\nsupport the construction of n
ovel relativistic and perturbatively\nrenormalizable\, interacting quantum
field theories in four spacetime\ndimensions. In particular\, new asympto
tically free self-interacting field\ntheories can be identified\, represen
ting first examples of high-energy complete\nquantum field theories based
on purely fermionic matter degrees of freedom. As\nexamples\, we discuss m
odels which undergo dimensional transmutation and low-\nenergy condensate
formation with scalar excitations on top of the condensate.\nWe observe th
at a corresponding Yukawa model exhibits features similar to\nself-organiz
ed criticality with a natural separation of low-energy observables\nfrom h
igh energy initial scales without the need for any fine-tuning. We also\nc
ritically examine the analytic structure of the Luttinger-fermionic\npropa
gator in the various gapped phases and discuss possible consequences for\n
 asymptotic states.\n
