 al relations between the transport properties and chaotic properties of qu
 antum field theories with holographic duals. I will firstly show how a sim
 ple analysis of near-horizon dynamics yields exact constraints on the spec
 trum of collective excitations. I will then describe how this can be explo
 ited to identify a universal feature in the spectrum\, and its implication
 s for the collective transport properties of strongly interacting field th
 eories with gravity duals.\n
