DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/HET/55/">Sin
gular inner horizons</a>\nby Arvin Shahbazi-Moghaddam (Stanford) as part o
f Purdue HET\n\nLecture held in Room 242 in the Department of Physics and
Astronomy.\n\nAbstract\nAn often overlooked problem in black hole physics
is that the inner horizon of stationary black holes do not (generically) e
xist even in the equilibrium state (i.e. the Hartle-Hawking state)\, due t
o the divergence of quantum fields. Even though this behavior has been obs
erved numerically in 2+1 and 3+1 dimensions for free fields\, a universal
and analytic understanding of it is lacking. I will discuss work in progre
ss on trying to fill this gap.\n
