DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/HET/49/">Com
plexity and Purity Over Time in Quantum Dynamics</a>\nby Nicholas LaRacuen
te (University of Chicago) as part of Purdue HET\n\nLecture held in Room 2
42\, Department of Physics and Astronomy.\n\nAbstract\nA quantum system's
time-evolution usually combines internal\, coherent dynamics with environm
ental noise. Combined dynamics may converge to mixed equilibria\, reduce t
o classical determinism for long times\, or maintain non-classicality. The
first regime is well-explained in quantum Markov semigroup theory. The se
cond is well-established in classical mechanics\, though its emergence fro
m quantum dynamics still yields mysteries. The third regime of persistent
quantum complexity is a key goal\, often proposed achievable through activ
e error correction. I will present results on the capabilities for quantum
quench dynamics to innately manifest non-classical complexities and maint
ain classical or quantum purity without intervention. Of particular intere
st are chaotic quantum systems and related conjectures about natural pheno
mena seeming to require non-classical capabilities.\n
