apping class groups of infinite graphs</a>\nby Thomas Hill (University of
Warwick) as part of Geometry and topology online\n\nInteractive livestream
: https://tinyurl.com/GATO-teams\nLecture held in Room B3.02 in the Zeeman
Building\, University of Warwick.\n\nAbstract\nThe group of topological s
ymmetries of a surface\, known as the mapping class group\, provides a pow
erful lens for studying the geometry and topology of surfaces. The outer a
 utomorphism groups of a free group\, $\\operatorname{Out}(F_n)$\, can b
e thought of as a graph-theoretic analog of the mapping class group. Alth
ough results do not translate directly between the surface and graph setti
ngs\, their structural parallels inspire questions and techniques between
these areas. Over the past decade\, there has been a growing interest in s
tudying big mapping class groups\, namely those of infinite-type surfaces.
In this talk\, I will discuss recent progress on the analog of $\\operat
 orname{Out}(F_n)$ for infinite graphs\, including a rigidity theorem\,
results about the algebraic properties of their asymptotically rigid subgr
oups\, and recent work on actions of these groups on hyperbolic spaces\, p
 articularly obstructions to general-type actions.\n
