DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/GaTO/148/">A
ffine extensions of icosahedral symmetry with connections to biology and c
 hemistry</a>\nby Kevin O'Brien (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität) as part o
f Geometry and topology online\n\nLecture held in Room B3.02 in the Zeeman
  Building\, University of Warwick.\n\nAbstract\nIcosahedral symmetry has l
ong been known to play an important role in the organisation of viral caps
ids and fullerenes. In this talk\, we discuss how affine extensions of thi
s symmetry enlarge the classical icosahedral framework and make it applica
ble to more complex systems. We survey the current state of the mathematic
al theory\, as well as recent applications in cluster chemistry.\n
