 thendieck\, cohomology theories have proved to be indispensable tools in t
 he study of algebraic geometry. They fit together under his visionary theo
 ry of motives\, which in turn\, is intricately related to the study of alg
 ebraic K-theory and its motivic filtration.\nIn recent years\, great new d
 evelopments have occurred in the $p$-adic setting\, with the development o
 f prismatic cohomology and the study of the motivic filtration of topologi
 cal Hochschild homology (THH) and its associated invariants.\nWe plan to g
 ive a gentle introduction to some of these phenomena\, by highlighting the
  role of the Witt vectors\, working towards an understanding of the motivi
 c filtration of topological restriction homology (TR).\n
