DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/EGSS/14/">Co
mpactification\, duality and black-hole entropy in stringy black hole</a>
\nby Tomas Ortin (Madrid IFT) as part of Exceptional geometry seminar seri
es\n\n\nAbstract\nIn this talk I will review results obtained by our group
over the last few years concerning the calculation of alpha' corrections
of 4- and 5-dimensional stringy black-hole geometries and the computation
of their Wald entropies\, always in the context of the Heterotic Superstri
ng effective action.\n\nFirst\, I will describe the corrections to that ac
tion in the Bergshoeff-de Roo formalism and how we can compute the corresp
onding corrections to the simplest 5- and 4-dimensional (3- and 4-charge)
stringy black holes.\n\nThen\, I will comment on the problems surrounding
the application of the Iyer-Wald prescription to the calculation of the Wa
ld entropy of those black holes directly in terms of their 10-dimensional
oxidized counterparts and I will argue that the calculation has to be done
using the 4- and 5-dimensional actions.\n\nI will then show how to obtain
these actions by direct dimensional reduction and how they provide us wit
 h alpha'-corrected T-duality rules. I will derive duality invariant Wald e
ntropy formulas using the Iyer-Wald prescription and I will show that the
entropies obtained satisfy the expected properties.\n\nFinally\, I will co
mment on the many unresolved problems related to all these issues.\n
