DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/E-NLA/9/">Co
ntour Integral Methods for Nonlinear Eigenvalue Problems: A Systems Theory
Perspective</a>\nby Mark Embree (Virginia Tech) as part of E-NLA - Online
seminar series on numerical linear algebra\n\n\nAbstract\nContour integra
l methods for nonlinear eigenvalue problems seek to compute a subset of th
e spectrum in a bounded region of the complex plane. We briefly survey thi
s class of algorithms\, establishing a relationship to system realization
techniques in control theory. This connection motivates new contour integr
al methods that build on recent developments in rational interpolation of
dynamical systems. The resulting techniques\, which replace the usual Hank
el matrices with Loewner matrix pencils\, incorporate general interpolati
on schemes and permit ready recovery of eigenvectors. Numerical examples
illustrate the potential of this approach.\n\nThis talk describes joint wo
rk with Michael Brennan (MIT) and Serkan Gugercin (Virginia Tech).\n
