DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/DSCSS/18/">R
oots of random functions</a>\nby Oanh Nguyen (University of Illinois at Ur
bana-Champaign) as part of Data Science and Computational Statistics Semin
ar\n\n\nAbstract\nRandom functions are linear combinations of deterministi
c functions using independent random coefficients. Several important examp
les are the Kac polynomial\, Weyl polynomial\, and random orthogonal polyn
omials. Random functions appear naturally in physics and approximation the
ory and remain mysterious despite decades of intensive research. We will p
resent our approaches via the local universality method to study questions
about the roots. As one of the applications\, we prove that the number of
real roots of a wide class of random polynomials satisfies the Central Li
 mit Theorem.\n
