DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/CJCS/118/">C
onnecting numbers with knots through polytopes and sphere packings</a>\nby
Iván Rasskin (TU Graz) as part of Copenhagen-Jerusalem Combinatorics Sem
inar\n\n\nAbstract\nHow many spheres are needed to construct a closed knot
ted necklace? Behind this question lies a deep connection between geometri
c knot theory\, sphere packings\, polytopes and number theory. In this tal
k\, we will see how these different theories are linked by describing a me
thod for constructing sphere packings containing optimal knotted necklaces
\, which at the same time produces solutions of certain Diophantine equati
ons. \nBased on joint works with Jorge Ramírez Alfonsín.\n
