 >Muon g-2: status and implications</a>\nby JiJi Fan (Brown) as part of Bro
wn HET Seminar\n\n\nAbstract\nRecently Fermilab announced the first result
s of their Muon g − 2 Experiment for the positive muon magnetic anomaly.
The result is 3.3 standard deviations greater than the standard model pre
diction and is in excellent agreement with the previous Brookhaven Nationa
l Laboratory measurement. After combination with previous measurements\, t
he new experimental average increases the tension between experiment and t
heory to 4.2 standard deviations. I will review the standard model calcula
tion of muon g-2 and the experimental method. Then I will discuss the impl
ications of the results for new physics beyond the standard model.\n
