 >Fractons\, geometrically</a>\nby Stephen Angus (APCTP) as part of Advance
s in Theoretical Physics 2022\n\n\nAbstract\nI will discuss how fracton ph
ysics can be studied systematically within the geometric framework of Doub
le Field Theory (DFT). Following an introductory review of fractons\, I w
ill argue that their restricted mobility and large degeneracy of quantum s
tates can be attributed to the generalized geodesics and infinite-dimensio
nal isometries present in non-Riemannian backgrounds of DFT. Furthermore\
, we find that a doubled pure Yang-Mills or Maxwell theory reduces to an o
rdinary one interacting with a strain tensor theory\, giving a unifying de
scription of photons and phonons. I will show how this photon-phonon theo
ry\, when minimally coupled to a charged particle in a non-Riemannian back
ground\, lifts the particle immobility to a saturation velocity and gives
 a modified dispersion relation.\n
