 r\n\nLecture held in https://harvard.zoom.us/j/779283357?pwd=MitXVm1pYUlJV
 zZqT3lwV2pCT1ZUQT09.\n\nAbstract\nHarper's operator—the 2D discrete magn
etic Laplacian—is the model behind the Hofstadter's butterfly and Thoule
ss theory of the Quantum Hall Effect. We present a result (with I. Krasovs
ky) that proves one half of the Thouless' "one half" conjecture from the e
arly 80s: that Hausdorff dimension of the spectrum of Harper's operator is
bounded by 1/2 for all irrational fluxes. The model reduces to the critic
al almost Mathieu family\, indexed by phase\, and we will also present a c
omplete proof of singular continuous spectrum for this family\, for all ph
ases\, finishing a program with a long history. The proof is based on a si
mple Fourier analysis and a new duality-type transform that is also underl
ying the solution of the Thouless problem. We will also explain how these
ideas provide for a very simple proof of zero measure of the spectrum of H
arper's operator\, a problem previuosly solved by sophisticated dynamical
systems techniques. Finally\, we discuss recent progress towards the Thoul
 ess Catalan conjecture.\n

 anguageproject/6/">Invariant differential forms\, graph complexes\, and Fe
ynman integrals</a>\nby Francis Brown (All Souls College\, Oxford) as part
of Math Picture Language Seminar\n\nLecture held in https://harvard.zoom.
 us/j/779283357?pwd=MitXVm1pYUlJVzZqT3lwV2pCT1ZUQT09.\n\nAbstract\nThe comm
utative graph complex\, defined by contracting edges in graphs\, was intro
duced by Kontsevich in 1993. Recently\, Chan-Galatius-Payne have shown tha
t its cohomology can be identified with a piece of the cohomology of modul
i spaces of curves\, and Willwacher showed that graph cohomology in degree
zero is related to the Grothendieck-Teichmuller Lie algebra. Nevertheless
\, the cohomology of the graph complex remains mysterious\, and little is
known explicitly. \n\nIn this talk I will explain how to use invariant tra
ce forms to construct differential forms on a moduli space of metric graph
 s. By integrating these forms\, one can canonically assign integrals to gr
aphs\, which are very closely related to Feynman integrals in perturbative
quantum field theory\, but have the property that they always converge. A
Stokes formula enables us to deduce some information about the cohomology
of the graph complex\, and leads to new predictions about its structure\,
  and its relation to physics.\n
