 /2/">Asymptotically Kasner-like singularities</a>\nby Jonathan Luk (Stanfo
rd) as part of University of Vienna relativity seminars\n\n\nAbstract\nThe
Kasner solutions are explicit solutions to the Einstein vacuum equations
with a spacelike singularity. I will present a recent construction of a cl
ass of Kasner-like singularities without any symmetry and analyticity assu
mptions. The construction in particular relies on a new energy estimate fo
r the second fundamental form of solutions to the Einstein vacuum equation
s in a synchronized coordinate system. This is a joint work with Grigorios
  Fournodavlos.\n

aj Korzynski (Polish Academy of Sciences) as part of University of Vienna
relativity seminars\n\n\nAbstract\nI will present how one may derive the E
instein-Vlasov equations for collisionless matter from a variational princ
iple. The main idea is to consider the Einstein-Vlasov matter as an analog
of pressureless dust\, but moving in the tangent bundle over the spacetim
e instead of the spacetime itself.\n

/7/">Permanent Displacement of Light Rays by Gravitational Waves</a>\nby T
homas Mieling (Vienna) as part of University of Vienna relativity seminars
\n\n\nAbstract\nThe standard perturbation series used to compute the traje
ctories of light rays in weak\, monochromatic\, plane gravitational wave b
ackgrounds is valid for short times only due to the presence of secular te
rms. However\, one can extend the range of validity of the perturbative se
ries using the method of multiple scales. The such obtained trajectories s
how that light rays experience a permanent shift from the unperturbed stra
ight lines\, resulting in a displacement of the beam by a distance of the
order of the wavelength of the gravitational wave.\n
