DESCRIPTION:Title: A Lazy Universe Inflates\nby Anjan Ananda Sen (Ahmedabad Uni
versity) as part of Mathematics and Physics Research Seminar Series\n\n\nA
bstract\nThe introduction of a delay in the Friedmann equation of cosmolog
ical evolutionis shown to result in the very early universe undergoing the
necessary acceleratedexpansion in the usual radiation (or matter) dominat
ed phase. Occurring even without a violation of the strong energy conditio
n\, this expansion slows down naturallyto go over to the decelerated phase
\, namely the standard Hubble expansion. Thismay obviate the need for a sc
alar field driven inflationary epoch.\n

DESCRIPTION:Title: Elementary combinatorial proofs of Jacobi triple product and Rog
ers-Ramanujan identities\nby Alok Shukla (Ahmedabad University) as par
t of Mathematics and Physics Research Seminar Series\n\n\nAbstract\nJacobi
triple product identity and Rogers-Ramanujan identities are among the mos
t famous $q$-series identities. We will present elementary combinatorial "
tiling proofs" of these results. Some new results will also be presented.
The talk should be accessible to a general mathematical audience.\n
