DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/MPIMworkshop
/1/">A Thurston compactification for stability conditions</a>\nby Anand De
opurkar (Mathematical Sciences Institute Australian National University) a
s part of Compactifications of stability manifolds\n\n\nAbstract\nThere is
a fascinating parallel between curves on a surface and objects in a trian
gulated category. This parallel allows us to transfer intuition\, techniqu
es\, and theorems between the two seemingly distant worlds. I will explain
a construction (joint with Asilata Bapat and Tony Licata) of the space of
Bridgeland stability conditions on a suitable triangulated category\, mot
ivated by the Thurston compactification of the Teichmuller space.\n

DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/MPIMworkshop
/2/">A partial compactification of the stability manifold</a>\nby Barbara
Bolognese (Univerisità di Roma Tre) as part of Compactifications of stabi
lity manifolds\n\n\nAbstract\nBridgeland stability manifolds of Calabi-Yau
categories are of noticeable interest both in mathematics and in physics.
By looking at some of the known example\, a pattern clearly emerges and g
ives a fairly precise description of how they look like. In particular\, t
hey all seem to have missing loci\, which tend to correspond to degenerate
stability conditions vanishing on spherical objects. Describing such miss
ing strata is also interesting from a mirror-symmetric perspective\, as th
ey conjecturally parametrize interesting types of degenerations of complex
structures. All the naïve attempts at constructing modular partial compa
ctifications show how elusive and subtle the problem in fact is: ideally\,
the missing strata would correspond to stability manifolds of quotient tr
iangulated categories\, but establishing such correspondence on geometric
level and viewing stability conditions on quotients of the original triang
ulated category as suitable degenerations of stability conditions is not s
traightforward. In this talk\, I will present method to construct such par
tial compactifications if some additional hypotheses are satisfied\, by re
alizing our space of interest as a suitable metric completion of the stabi
 lity manifold.\n
