a>\nby Lauren Williams (Harvard University) as part of The asymmetric simp
le exclusion process and Macdonald polynomials\n\n\nAbstract\nThe asymmetr
ic simple exclusion process (ASEP) is a model of particles hopping on a on
e-dimensional lattice\, initially introduced as a model for translation in
protein synthesis. On the other hand\, Macdonald polynomials are a remark
able family of multivariate polynomials which generalize Schur polynomials
and Hall-Littlewood polynomials. I'll explain how the study of the ASEP o
n a ring leads to new formulas for Macdonald polynomials (joint work with
Corteel and Mandelshtam)\, as well as a new notion of quasisymmetric Macdo
 nald polynomials (joint with Corteel-Haglund-Mandelshtam-Mason).\n\nOrgani
