1/">Hidden Algebraic Structures in Topology and Quantum Field Theory</a>\n
by Sergei GUKOV (California Institute of Technology\, USA) as part of HECA
 P-Maths Colloquium\n\n\nAbstract\nQuantum physics\, topology\, and represe
ntation theory have a long history of working together. Therefore\, it is
no surprise that symmetries and their representations play an important ro
le in describing physical phenomena and often label powerful invariants of
  3-manifolds and 4-manifolds. More surprising\, though\, are algebraic str
uctures labeled by topological manifolds or emergence of symmetries in qua
ntum systems where they are not initially expected. Although instances of
such 'hidden' algebraic structures are still rare and quite mysterious\, t
hey sometimes can be understood or even predicted in the framework of stri
ng theory. In this talk\, intended for a broad audience\, I will survey so
me of the recent and more intriguing examples of such relations between al
 gebra\, topology\, and physics.\n\nAdvance registration is required \nat:
