 n\nAbstract\nProf. Erika Eiser\, University of Cambridge\n\nOptical tweeze
rs have been established as indispensable tool for the manipulation of mic
ro- and\nnano-sized objects. We show that colloids anchored to a water-oil
interface via DNA-tethers\nwill crystallize when only one of the particle
s is trapped with optical tweezers [1\,2]. These\nDNA-anchored colloids ar
e fully immersed in the water phase\, thus they do not disturbe the\noil-w
ater interface\, but allow the tethered colloids to diffuse freely along t
he oil-droplet surface\nin the absence of a tweezing laser [3\,4]. Our com
bined experimental and theoretical analyses\nshow that local temperature g
radients induced by optical tweezers cause a thermophoretic force\npushing
the trapped particle towards the colder oil phase\, causing an attractive
long-ranged\nhydrodynamic flow towards the laser focus that promotes the
observed out-of equilibrium\ncrystallization of the DNA tethered colloids
around the trapped particle. The crystallization is\nfurther enhanced by s
 cattering forces known as optical binding.\n\n[1] A. Caciagli\, R. Singh\,
