DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/BUAG/1/">Alm
ost André in Positive Characteristic</a>\nby Boran Alparslan (Bilkent Uni
versity) as part of Bilkent University Arithmetic Geometry Seminar\n\nLect
ure held in SA 141\, Bilkent university.\n\nAbstract\nAbstract: The André
–Oort theorem (Jacob Tsimerman together with Pila and\nShankar\, 2021) c
haracterizes algebraic subvarieties of Shimura varieties\nthat contain a Z
ariski-dense set of special points: such subvarieties\nmust themselves be
 special.\n\nIn the simplest nontrivial case\, $Y(1)^2_{\\mathbb{C}}$ \, th
is\nclassification is particularly explicit. The special curves are the\nv
ertical and horizontal fibers above CM points\, together with the\nmodular
curves defined by the modular polynomials $\\Phi_N(X\,Y)$. André's\ntheo
rem asserts that any irreducible algebraic curve containing\ninfinitely ma
ny special points must belong to this list.\n\nIn this talk\, I will prese
 nt a proof of a positive-characteristic\nvariant of André's theorem for t
he product of two modular curves.\n
